About
What this site is about
An independent publication about The Ugly Truth (2009), the studio romantic comedy directed by Robert Luketic.
The film cost about $38 million and took roughly $205 million worldwide. Its critical reception ran cold and its opening-night audience graded it well. Those two facts sit beside each other, and most of what is interesting about the picture lives in the gap between them.
So the site takes one film seriously as a piece of manufacture: who wrote it and in what order, who was cast and against what, what the certificate cost the campaign, where the money came from and which parts of the world sent it. Six sections, eighteen pieces. Every figure is the reported one and is attributed in the sentence that uses it.
Written and edited independently. Photography in the kit is used for context; where a real photograph of a named subject exists, it is credited beneath the picture.
